Clay from Armidale, New England, mixed with iron, clear glaze on top of white slip. The technique is originally from Korea and called "kohiki". It is produced with a two stages of firing; in the second stage firing the natural and added iron burns through the glaze.

A small bowl made by Kiyotaka Hashimoto in an intense wabi-sabi style, both delicate and rough.

Parts of the glaze are unfinished, highlighting the natural appearance of the iron rich clay.

Burn marks from the kiln and an imperfect symetry also evidence the making process in this very traditional, perhaps even esoteric, style of Japanese ceramic.
